Quick Tip: Most Efficient Colour Blending Tool

In this post, I`ll show you how to make nice blending of colour  on example of drawing chocolate splashes.

Okay, so first of all, make a base shape for your splash.

I like to do the sketch for illustration on paper with drawing pen first. It feels nice to make traditional sketch after spending a lot of hours in front of the computer. Plus, it`s the fastest way for me.

Then use Pen tool to make the outline for your splash and fill it with one base colour.

After that, start to apply shadows, midtones and highlights to your shape. I used hard round brush (you can download it and read more about it here.)

Now the most fun part begins. Take a Mixer brush tool:

You can use different Hardness of the brush, depending on how much you want colours to be blurred.

And now working on the same layer with your basic shadows, midtones and highlights use mixer brush to blend those tones together. Experiment with brush strokes of this brush, since it blending with the different colour when moving in different directions.

Switch to standard brush and draw more details, then use mixer brush again.

The finishing touch is applying highlights. I used the same hard round brush and hard eraser.
